Whitfield County Board of Elections Meeting 11/14/19

  1. Director reported she heard mixed reactions to new equipment: some smaller precincts say equipment takes too much space; some suggest magnifiers for people who have trouble reading printed ballots, and having review stations so as not to slow process more than necessary; the process is slower than in past.
  2. Discussed ways to educate the public on using machines: holding training sessions in three places in the county—north, south, and Dalton; going to civic group meetings for training; putting SOS videos on Facebook; setting up a couple of machines in the courthouse with staff or volunteers to show voters how to use them.
  3. A brief discussion on rude voters and slogans: Director said she won’t allow voters to be rude to poll workers and asked board members to support her; they anticipate a possible problem with voters wearing shirts and hats with political slogans—e.g., MAGA hats that election board staff consider to be political slogans.
