Ballots, Voting and Poll Workers:

C.R: The secretary of state has mailed out 6.9 million ballot application requests last week. We have gotten 3,000 in, we’ve processed 1,000. We have been working night, day and weekend to get these entered in the computer. April 21 is when the SOS is mailing out the ballots. People need to mail in their absentee ballot by June 5, 2020. In-person early voting starts May 18. I’ve ordered prevention Covid-19 kits for poll workers and voters. We are getting prepared like we are going to have early voting May 18.

J.L: Do you still have the required number of poll workers?

C.R: I do as of now, I don’t know if that’s going to change, but as of now I do.

N.P: When is the deadline for applying for an absentee ballot?

C.R: June 5, 2020, is the last day you can mail one out. We recommend that you do it before then.

J.L: You don’t have to mail one out with a stamp, you can email it in.

C.R: The primary has been postponed until June 9 and early voting begins May 18.

J.L: The locations for early voting will be at the Administration Complex at Richmond Hill and in Pembroke at the courthouse. Early voting hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Election day voting hours will be 7a.m. to 7 p.m. We will be using various avenues like print publication, Facebook and the counties website to get this info out.

Public Comment:

D.L: How do people get their I.D. to qualify to vote? How do unregistered folks get registered?

C.R: There is a website that they can visit to get registered (mvp.sos.ga.gov). Do they have a license?

D.L: No, If they don’t have a license or ID how do they register to vote?

C.R: You can go to the “My Voter Page” website and there is an application for registration. You would use your SS# as verification. During the Covid-19, we haven’t had any directions from the S.O.S., but I’m sure if you can’t go to the DMV that they will be accepting any picture ID or passport.

D.L: How do I track my absentee ballot status?

C.R: There is a link that you can go to on the M.V.P. website, or you can call us anytime and we can let you know.

D.L: Are you hiring more staff to deal with the large increase of absentee ballots?

C.R: We have a new scanning machine that scans about 1,000 per minute.

F.G: 3,000 absentee ballot applications have been mailed out, what do you expect could be the amount returned to you and how much time do you think it will take to process?

C.R: We will start opening them up at 9a.m. that morning and hope to have it done by midnight. We will have extra help coming in on election day.

F.G: When will you update your website with new election info?

C.R: We are updating our website this afternoon.

J.L: Any updates will be posted on Facebook or the Bryan County website
