Butts County Official Board of Election Meeting Minutes 09/22/20

COUNTY OF BUTTS

The Butts County Board of Elections and Registration held a Regular Public Meeting at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 in the Butts County Board of Elections & Registration office, 625 West Third St., Suite 5, Jackson, Georgia.  Notice of this meeting was posted in the entrance foyer of the Elections and Registration Office.  The Jackson Progress Argus was notified of this meeting.  Those present were: 

Lanson Newsome, Chair

Judy Kelly, Vice-Chair 

Dr. William Driggers, Board Member

Also attending was: Tina Lunsford, Elections and Registration Director and Annette Parris, Registrar

Not in attendance was Letha Kinard, Secretary and Leslie Medlock, Board Member

  1. Call to Order:

Chair Newsome called the meeting to order at 12:00pm.

  1. Acceptance of the Agenda

Vice Chair Kelly called for the motion to accept the agenda as presented.  Board Member Dr. Driggers seconded. The motion carried 3-0-0.

  1. Approval of the August 25th  minutes

     Board Member Dr. Driggers made the motion to accept the minutes of the August 25th meeting.  Vice Chair Kelly seconded. The motion carried 3-0-0.

  1. Old Business

      No old business.

  1. New Business

      No new business. 

  1. Supervisor Report

   Director Lunsford updated the Board on the budget.  She said the department had utilized 11% percent of the budget. She said there was a large expenditure for a drop box for absentee ballots which was $950.00.

   Director Lunsford updated the Board on the office workload since the last meeting. She said there had been 308 voters transferred into Butts County and 95 first time registrants. She told the Board there had been 2,173 absentee ballots mailed out. 

   Director Lunsford discussed the preparations for the November election that had begun. She said voting equipment was in the auditorium and logic & accuracy testing had begun. She said the plan was to have 40 voting units in place in anticipation for a large voter turnout. She informed the Board that poll worker training will begin September 29th and the goal was to have 17 to 25 poll workers on Election Day. 

The Director informed the Board of community outreach efforts. She said the office had prepared packets consisting of voter registration applications, absentee ballot requests, early voting schedule, composite ballot and the My Voter Page materials for 4 voter drives that had taken place. She showed the Board fliers of the early voting schedule that has been distributed throughout the community.

   Chair Newsome thanked staff on all the good work that has been done.

Chair Newsome announced the date and time of the next meeting.

Being no further business, Board Member Driggers made the motion to adjourn.  Vice Chair Kelly seconded. The motion carried 3-0-0.
