Dekalb County Board of Elections 10/14/20

Moved Election Day sites were discussed by attorney in terms of their advertising requirements.

Board deferred finalizing polling locations, citing Covid-19 as an excuse

Public comments are now just emailed in, not read. They will be available on DeKalb Elections website, although they have yet to replace their administrative assistant and meeting minutes and things are not being posted.

The board chair and director announced that long lines at early voting sites were due to the state’s slow servers and insisted it was not a problem with a shortage of check in equipment or personnel at the county level.

While the state issues are alarming, these people are evading the other very real issue of too little check in equipment in African American areas of DeKalb.

There was no vote related to that issue, although Board Member Dele Lowman Smith pointed out the problems.

Besides their putting off finalizing the Nov 3 polling locations (!) they may be late announcing “intent to open early” for absentee ballots. They are still trying to hire people to process ballots.

They are still trying to buy more dropboxes. We’re three days into Early Voting.

The big news, that came out in the AJC during the meeting but was not discussed, is that the DeKalb Dems are calling for the chair and director’s resignation.

Did you know that the public can attend Board of Registration and Elections meetings?

These meetings are open to the public by Georgia law. Georgia Open Meetings Act.
