Lumpkin County Board of Elections Meeting 09/21/21

Gold Rush/Early Voting Conflict:  Meeting with Dahlonega Jaycees, Sheriff’s Office, City of Dahlonega & Mrs. Sheppard/Mrs. Krull representing BOE.  The decision was made to close a street and make a specific one-way street two-way for the Saturday of the Gold Rush Parade.  The decision was it was too difficult to adjust the parade route so the BOE would have to accept adjustments.  Lumpkin will also use the County Recreation Building for a second voting site Saturday, Oct. 16, to ensure everyone has access to vote.

A two-prong plan for next year was agreed upon.  First a meeting with all the above groups after the parade to discuss next year.  It was discussed BOE members might write or contact Senator Gooch and Rep. Wade to let them know having specific days with no flexibility could impact voting.

Policy for future poll workers was discussed.  They referred to p. 63 of the code book but it was not specific.  Some questions are:

  1.   If someone puts on social media they are going to run for sheriff but have not done a Declaration of Intent, are they eligible to be a poll worker.
  2. If someone is out waving signs for a candidate are they allowed to be a poll worker?  Where is the line for non-partisan?

They came up with several ideas but no decisions.  Everyone will look at the code book and come back for a discussion in October.

Currently there are enough poll workers.  Training is October 15th and 17th.  They have worked to simplify instructions for procedures on the machines.

SPOLST money was used to purchase a large number of items that were needed.  This frees up some of the regular budget.
