Douglas County Board of Elections Meeting 10/14/21

Members present: Myesha Good (chair), Robert Proctor, Kevin Evans

Director: Milton Kidd

Office operations

  1. Staff reported they had received 83 applications for absentee ballots. A few were rejected for addresses not matching registration, living out of a district holding elections, or for using an old form. Staff mailed current forms to those submitting incorrect forms.
  2. New initiatives coming out of strategic plan
  1. Staff reported they have worked with a company to develop an inventory system for the voting equipment. The proposed system would track location and maintenance of thousands of pieces of equipment, utilizing a dashboard that staff could review on cell phones. In response to questions from M. Good, staff said the system would keep a historical record of maintenance and movement of the equipment, and it will allow tracking of equipment in real time. Director Kidd noted other counties have had inventory issues.
  2. Staff reported they have solicited a proposal from a company to track poll worker training and make training modules available to poll workers. It would include a portal that poll workers could use to get access to self-led training. Director Kidd said they will continue to do in-person training and this software would supplement those efforts.

M. Kidd said the next step for both of these initiatives is to present them to the county commissioners for their approval. No new funds will be necessary at this time.

Old business

M. Kidd reported the redistricting legislative session will start November 3. He has been appointed to a county committee that will consider proposals for local jurisdictions.

New business

Staff reported they will have a booth at an arts and cultural festival the evening of October 23. They will be available to register voters, issue IDs, and provide other information about voting.

There was nothing to report of felon hearings no public comment or board member concerns.
