Members present: Myesha Good (chair), Chad Word, Kevin Evans, Maurice Hurry, Michele Crochetiere
Director: Milton Kidd
Office operations
M. Kidd and staff reported on the following:
? Staff said that with the election cycle over, they are processing voter registration applications.
They had a backlog of 4,800 applications. As of the meeting they are down to about 2,000.
? Kidd said that he and the deputy director attended a training retreat for county directors earlier
in the week.
? Kidd said that he attended a meeting of county officials and the legislative delegation.
Legislators asked him for suggestions they could take up during the session. He said he made a
plea for state resources. State law prohibits election boards from receiving outside funding and
election costs have gone up 200-300%.
Old business
Kidd said that at the request of the board chair, he checked on stipends board members receive in other
counties. Based on the survey, he recommended increasing member stipends from $55 to $100 and
giving the chair a stipend of $150. If the board approves it, the increase would take effect in the next
term, starting in January.
A motion was made to approve the recommended stipends. It passed with 3 for and 1 abstention. (One
member, M. Hurry, didn’t arrive until after the vote.)
Board member concerns
M. Crochetiere announced this was her last meeting. She thanked the board and staff for their efforts
and support. The Republican Party has named a replacement.
