Old business:
Fincher Polling Location—A person connected with the building where the Fincher polling site is located told the elections staff that they wanted to discontinue it as a polling location. However, S. McClure reported the county determined that the county owns it. The county will inspect the building to make sure it is suitable for using as a voting site. If it is or if only minor improvements are needed, they will not move the location. McClure said she will let the board the results of the inspection.
New business:
Certification of December 5 runoff—The board voted to certify the results of the runoff for a City of Dalton school board post. S. Kelehear said the turnout was low with less than a thousand people voting. The winner won by 51 votes. He added that the county is large and has 23 precincts, and while it might make sense to consolidate some precincts, the voters would object.
An audience member asked about the cost of holding an election. Staff said it was between $20,000 and $25,000 when all precincts are voting.
Another audience member suggested the staff do an analysis of the costs. She felt the public would be interested in it.
