S. Kelehear explained that the board called the special meeting to take action on errors in four pieces of local legislation: HB 753, 754, HB787, and HB 789. These bills dealt with referenda questions related to local taxes. They specified the questions would be a ballot for an election on November 14, 2023, instead of stating they would be on the general election ballot. The county filed a complaint in court, requesting the questions be included on the general election ballot.
The board voted to “approve the petition” to place the questions on the general election ballot.
These meetings are open to the public by Georgia law.
