Office operations
M. Kidd and staff reported on the following
- Regional meeting: A staff person reported that he and Kidd attended a meeting of the election boards in the metro Atlanta area on August 5-6. They discussed issues that the larger counties are facing.
- Dashboard: Staff reported they are working with the emergency management agency and others on preparing a dashboard to show polling place-related information such as wait times. It would be used by voters during early voting and on election day. Law enforcement and other agencies would have access to it as well. They will be meeting to discuss the roll-out.
- Key dates—a staff person gave the dates for registering to vote, requesting an absentee ballot, and advanced voting. Kidd said they will be meeting with the communications department to get word out to the community. In response to a question, he said they have not scheduled Sunday voting but will look into the feasibility of doing so.
- Outreach—staff reported the voter outreach coordinator will be meeting with assisted living facilities to make staff aware of the requirements and process for absentee voting.
- Voter registration—Staff reported they will be providing training for anyone interested in registering voters. Interested person can sign-up on their website. The training will be virtual.
Old business
After surveying board members, staff said they will work on the elections board members to meet with the county commissioners at the September 5 Board of Commissioners meeting. They will discuss the need for additional space for the elections office.
