On 3-2-20 the Cherokee County Board of Elections and Registration (BOE) held their monthly meeting. The following includes notes were taken by a Peanut Gallery volunteer as a public service. Contact the Cherokee BOE for questions or official information.
The Chairman of the Board and Four Board Members attended. One member of the public attended.
Agenda Items One and Two The Board approved the minutes from the previous meeting.
Agenda Item Three The Board noted the signed agreement with the City of Holly Springs to conduct elections on their behalf.
Agenda Item Four Unfinished Business – There was no unfinished business.
Agenda Item Five Kim Stancil, the Supervisor, gave her report. She noted that 50 additional “cole pads” have been approved but she’s unsure whether they’ll arrive in time for March 24 election. They’ve conducted 3 demos of the new equipment, 2 in Woodstock and 1 in Canton. Budget wise, they’re good and also know the county will cover whatever is needed. All poll positions are covered and they also have additional people available if needed. They have been given more space for the new equipment; this space will also be used for LNA(?) testing. All polling places have been checked to make sure they have enough outlets and all have been tested. In a few places, they won’t be able to set up all the machines received. They’ve gotten all the booths they needed. In response to Board member Cindy Castello’s question, all ballots will be collected daily during early voting. All staff have been trained. A male board member asked when mailed votes need to be in. Answer – by Election Day.
The Chair reiterated that they are nonpartisan and just want fair elections and timely results.
Frankie Shepherd, the Democratic appointee, shared that she’s gotten questions about the changes in voting locations – six locations changed in July, 2019 because they were not ADA compliant. Chair reminded the Board that notification of these changes went out last year and again this past January.
Meeting adjourned at 10:40.
