New Georgia House member arrested for stealing prescription narcotics

Republican Danny Rampey, 67, was arrested after winning a race for a Georgia house seat. Rampey’s family owns personal care home in northeast Georgia. After reports of missing drugs authorities began to investigate. The investigation resulted in Rampey being charged in Barrow County with six counts of obtaining drugs by misrepresentation or theft, six counts of exploiting an elder or disabled adult, five counts of burglary, and one count of drug possession.

After much pressure, Rampey stepped aside rather than face suspension after being sworn into office. On January 31st a special election will be held to choose the new representative for the House seat.
