Douglas County Board of Elections 8/28/23

Members present: Myesha Good (chair), Maurice Hurry (vice-chair), Michele Crochetiere, Chad Word, Kevin Evans

Director: Milton Kidd

The board had a special meeting with two agenda items: 1. Vote to approve the City of Villa Rica resolution; 2. Vote to approve change of polling place

  1. Villa Rica resolution—a city council member resigned on the last day of qualifying to run for mayor. This left her seat vacant. The resolution allows Villa Rica to hold a special election at the same time as the general election in November, to fill the vacant council seat.

M. Hurry asked about the qualifying period. M. Kidd said it would be Aug 30 through Sept 1.

The board approved the resolution.

  1. Polling place change—First Baptist Church elected not to be a polling place after this year. St. Theresa Catholic Church has agreed to be a polling place, starting in 2024. Kidd explained the resolution allows this change to be made. After the general election, precinct cards with the new location will be mailed to voters.

M. Crochetiere asked how far the new location is from First Baptist. Kidd said less than a mile. C. Ward asked if the St. Theresa understood what would be required of them. Kidd said he and staff have gone over the 2024 calendar and times that election employees will need access to the facility. They will not be an advanced voting site.

The board approved the resolution.

These meetings are open to the public by Georgia law.
