Whitfield County Board of Elections 6/24/2024

Members present: Sparky Kelehear (Chair), Carol Byers, Rob Cowan

Certification

The board voted unanimously to certify the June 18 run-off election.

After the vote, S. Kelehear said that with only a little over one percent of eligible voters participating, this was a costly election. He also said Georgia is one of few states requiring a “50 plus 1” tally for office holders. Without it, the process would be shorter and the county would save money.

Risk Limiting Audit

Staff member Heath Frazier reported there will be a Risk Limiting Audit on the election for the federal office, on June 26.

General discussion

C. Byers noted that the staff does the work of insuring that the reported election results are accurate that the board certifies. Kelehear noted that the board had been criticized for not examining the results when they Ceritified the May election.
