Old business
S. Bryson updated the board on the general election dates for early voting, Saturday voting, and extended hours voting.
New business
- Bryson proposed an additional day for extended voting—October 24—to make up for the fact they will not be open on the Columbus Day holiday.
The board approved the addition.
- Bryson said they will begin L & A testing on September 25
- Bryson reported they had accepted 685 applications for absentee ballots. She said they will be processing and scanning absentee ballots on October 22, October 29, and November 5.
- She said they will have a risk limiting audit on November 14 and expect it to last one day.
- Staff reported they will have enough poll workers. They will hire another 15 to be on standby. They hope to have a bilingual worker at each precinct.
- Bryson said the sheriff’s office does not have enough staff to be present at each polling site all day, but they will be circulating.
General discussion
S. Kelehear said they have been reading about the State Election Board changes in the newspaper. He does not expect the changes will have an adverse effect on Whitfield County.
A League of Women Voters representative said they have been registering students at a high school and Dalton College. They will host a meet and greet for candidates at a senior center in October. They are preparing voting literature in English and Spanish.
