Glynn County Board of Elections meeting 8/13/2024

Public comments: The BOE allowed 5 public comments even though they usually allow only 3; all 5 commenters requested extended early voting hours and 1 Sunday voting day

State Election Board meeting rules: All drop boxes need 24 hour video surveillance; Glynn BOE already has this surveillance but needs to know if it meets the new requirements

– hand ballot delivery- person delivering the ballot for the voter will need to deliver it with an ID in hand and if there’s no signature then the ballot will be considered as provisional

– election boards now have a right for reasonable inquiry before certifying the results of the election

– increase the number of poll observers at the polling place and during tabulation; BOE noted that extra poll workers with no specific distance required could cause a problem in some of their precincts

Proposed rules—- SEB wants to allow election officials to decide whether they want to use Dominion machines after July 2026; paper ballots next option

– SEB wants absentee ballots tol be stored with application and iff the application can’t be found then the ballot can be challenged

– SEB wants to make voter registration and elector lists free

General election prep: preparing to receive absentee ballots and preparing precincts

Cancellation portal: This form has existed for more than a decade; 650 have been submitted to the state in the 4 weeks its been live; 4 voters in Glynn Co have been cancelled

Next month: will look at past data and numbers from other states to determine if early voting should happen. Many BOE members expressed support of extended hours and Sunday voting
