Members present: Myesha Good (chair), Maurice Hurry (vice-chair), Robert Proctor, Kelly Cobb
Director: Milton Kidd
There were no felon hearings for January.
Office operations:
- Director Kidd reported the Douglas County legislative delegation will be submitting maps for county commission districts, school board districts, and City of Douglasville districts to the General Assembly for approval. They are trying to get legislative approval by February 1. Redistricting changes have to be made by February 18.
- The staff are reviewing the new maps to update voter precinct profiles. They will then send out new precinct cards to voters.
- Four districts do not have the space for additional voting machines required by population increases. Staff are working on splitting up these precincts. The process may not be completed in time for the primary, but it will be completed in time for the general election. M. Hurry asked if these changes will require additional staff. Kidd said it will not require more office staff, but more poll workers will be needed for additional voting sites.
Old business:
- Staff reported that over 5,900 letters were sent to voters whose addresses had changed; 870 were returned undelivered. Recipients are asked to confirm the address changes so they can be placed in the appropriate precincts or removed from the rolls.
New business:
- Kidd reported the new election calendar is on the county website. There will be seven satellite locations for early voting, and times they will be open are posted. He noted they will accept absentee ballot applications starting March 7, which is also the first day for qualifying.
- M. Good asked if pandemic guidance has been provided by the state. Kidd replied they haven’t received any guidance.
- Good asked if power outages occur, as has happened in the past, what will they do to address them. Kidd answer they will ask the governor’s office for an emergency declaration. If an emergency is declared, they will use their mobile voting unit.
Executive session:
- The board went into executive session to discuss personnel.
